A Hindi marriage biodata (शादी के लिए बायोडाटा / विवाह बायोडाटा) is a one-page document that shares who the person is, what family they belong to, and what matters to them, in the language elders read most comfortably. Sample Hindi biodata
A common opening is ॐ or श्री गणेशाय नमः, followed by an eyebrow that reads विवाह बायोडाटा. Honorifics matter: श्री for men, श्रीमती for married women, कुमारी for unmarried women, though families increasingly drop them.
Community variations
North Indian Brahmin, Kayastha, Vaish, and Rajput familiestypically expect gotra, kuldev, rashi, nakshatra and manglik status. Rajput families often add वंश (dynasty/clan) below gotra.
Punjabi families use naukri instead of vyavasay, sometimes include gotra along with subcaste (Arora, Khatri, Jat). Include a photo, height, and job details prominently, they are almost always scanned first.

PDF vs Word: which should you send?
PDF is the safest default. It preserves fonts, layout and Hindi script on every phone, prints correctly, and can't be edited by accident. Almost every rishta on WhatsApp is a PDF for this reason.

Writing tips for a Hindi biodata
Keep it under one page. A crisp one-pager gets forwarded on WhatsApp. A two-page biodata often gets skimmed and put aside.
Use Devanagari for names, family, and community fields. Use English for degrees, company names, and technical job titles. Mixed script is standard and easier to read.
Be honest, especially about height, income and horoscope.Elders check these first. Inflated numbers are the fastest way to lose trust once the families connect.
Include a plain-background photo. A recent portrait that shows the face clearly is what receivers remember. Avoid group photos and heavily filtered pictures.
Have an elder proofread it. A Hindi biodata is written for elders as much as the couple. If the phrasing wouldn't sit right at a family sabha, rewrite it.
