Marriage biodata format for a girl (bride)
वधू बायोडाटा · Personality-first · Family-friendly
A bride's marriage biodata reads best when it reads like her, not a checklist. Modern receivers scan education and career first, elders scan family and community, and everyone reads "About me" last. Get the tone right in all three and the biodata is memorable, forwards further, and starts better conversations.
Below is the field list a bride's side is expected to lead with, a copy-ready sample, community variations, PDF vs Word guidance, and 8 FAQs. Free to make and download, no watermark, everything stays on your device.

Sample biodata for girl
The sample below reads like a person, not a form. It starts with name and current role, then family, then hobbies and languages, and ends with a two-sentence "About" and a plain contact line.
Community variations for brides
Marathi: add kuldev and sub-caste (Deshastha, CKP, Kokanastha). Rashi and nakshatra are expected. Traditional Marathi biodatas open with || श्री गणेशाय नमः ||.
North Indian Brahmin, Kayastha, Vaish, Rajput: include gotra, kuldev, rashi, nakshatra, and manglik status. Some families still expect the bride's mother's side (mama) to be listed.
Marwari, Agarwal, Jain: add mool, vansha, and diet prominently. Many Jain families expect the panth (Digambar / Shwetambar) to be stated near religion.
Punjabi: subcaste (Khatri, Arora, Jat), a good portrait, and a current job are what receiving families scan first. Rashi is optional; height is not.
Muslim: drop rashi, nakshatra, gotra, kuldev. Add school (Sunni / Shia), maslak, mahr expectations if the family wants them stated.
Christian: denomination (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant), parish and confirmation status if the family cares. Plain eyebrow, no invocation.
South Indian: gothram, star (nakshatra), and rasi are almost always listed for Hindu families. Include family details of both parents' sides. Tamil, Telugu, and Malayali biodatas often list place of native temple.
PDF vs Word for a bride's biodata
PDF is default. It preserves the layout across every phone, embeds fonts (including Devanagari for Hindi and Marathi versions), and can only be viewed, not edited by accident.
Word (.docx) is for cases where a matchmaker or a receiving family wants to translate a section, paste it into their own template, or add a cover page. Biodataji's Word file preserves fonts so the receiver only has to edit content.
Image (PNG) is for WhatsApp Status or Instagram. If your extended family shares matches on WhatsApp groups, a PNG copy is worth having alongside the PDF.
Writing tips for a bride's biodata
Write "About me" in your own voice. Two sentences that sound like you talking to a stranger at a wedding. Skip cliches like "family-oriented, homely". A single specific hobby beats five vague adjectives.
Height and current role are non-negotiable. Everything else (income, address, horoscope) can stay behind for later conversations.
Choose your photograph carefully. A clear portrait against a plain background, natural light, no group photos, no heavy filters. Traditional outfit is fine but not required. This is often the first thing scanned.
Skip fields you would refuse to answer. Hide address, income and detailed contact info unless the biodata is going to a family the elders already trust.
Have a family elder proofread. Elders on the receiving side will read this too. If a phrase would raise an eyebrow at your own family sabha, rewrite it.
