Ten common marriage biodata mistakes
The ten mistakes that make a marriage biodata forgettable, with a one-line fix for each. Based on how receivers actually read.
A marriage biodata is read in under a minute. Mistakes that look small on your laptop become loud on a four-inch WhatsApp preview. Below are the ten most common ones and the one-line fix for each.
1. Two pages
Mistake: the biodata is 1.5 or 2 pages long.
Fix: hide fields instead of leaving them blank. The second page gets skimmed and forgotten; cut address, email, extended hobbies, and templated paragraphs.
2. Inflated height, income, or horoscope
Mistake: height rounded up, income padded, manglik status softened.
Fix: be honest. Receivers verify in person, over LinkedIn, and over kundali matching. Trust takes weeks to build; it dies the moment one of these three numbers does not match.
3. Templated adjective wall in About me
Mistake: "God-fearing, family-oriented, homely, with good moral values and a positive outlook on life."
Fix: two sentences with one specific hobby and one value. "Curious and family-oriented. Weekends are long treks in Sahyadris and cooking something new."
4. Group photos or selfies
Mistake: a cropped wedding photo, a selfie, or a group shot.
Fix: a head-and-shoulders portrait against a plain wall, natural light, no filters. See the photo guide.
5. Blank fields
Mistake: empty blanks under "Address" or "Annual income".
Fix: hide the field entirely. A blank line signals you forgot or you are hiding something; a missing field signals a deliberate choice.
6. Blurry PDF
Mistake: a Word file exported from a free online converter, or a photo of the biodata taken on a phone.
Fix: export directly as PDF from a tool that embeds fonts (biodataji does). Fonts stay crisp when forwarded over WhatsApp; a converted PDF usually turns into a blurry image.
7. Mixing modern and traditional randomly
Mistake: a modern template with gotra on top, or a traditional template with no invocation and no community.
Fix: commit to one. If the receiving family runs kundali matching, pick a traditional template with the full traditional block. If not, pick a modern template and hide traditional details.
8. Full address on a shared PDF
Mistake: "Plot 42, 3rd Cross, Jayanagar 4th Block, Bengaluru 560011" on a biodata that gets forwarded on WhatsApp.
Fix: city and native place only. Full address is shared privately after the match progresses. A forwarded PDF with a full address is a safety risk.
9. The biodata is in English but the family reads Marathi / Hindi
Mistake: the elders on the receiving side skim the English fields and miss half the context.
Fix: set document language to Marathi or Hindi in the preview toolbar. The maker switches field labels and section titles while keeping the content exactly as you typed. See the Marathi or Hindi format guides.
10. Partner expectations as a wishlist
Mistake: "tall, fair, slim, convent-educated, earning above 25 LPA, must be from a Punjabi Khatri family."
Fix: state preferences respectfully and specifically. "Looking for someone kind, educated, comfortable in Bengaluru or Mumbai." A short, respectful line is remembered; a wishlist is quietly deleted.
Bonus: starting from a template you have to fight
Mistake: a Word template downloaded from a random site that overrides your Devanagari font, loses alignment on mobile, and prints with the margins wrong.
Fix: use a template that was designed for A4 and mobile at the same time. The biodataji template gallery has 16 templates that render identically on your phone, on A4 print, and on the receiver's desktop.
How biodataji prevents most of these
The biodataji wizard hides blank fields automatically, enforces a one-page target, embeds Noto Sans Devanagari in the PDF and Word exports, uploads photos locally (never to a server), separates modern and traditional templates with a clear toggle, and gives you a copy-ready WhatsApp message in the biodata's document language. It is free, needs no login, and leaves nothing on a server you cannot see.
